Golf Injury Treatment in Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Golf places specific, repetitive demands on the elbow, lower back, shoulder, and wrist. Most golf injuries are overload conditions — they respond well to physiotherapy when the mechanics driving the overload are addressed, not just the painful structure.

Why golf injuries keep coming back

The swing generates load the body has to absorb somewhere

A golf swing produces significant rotational force through the spine, elbow, and shoulder in a fraction of a second — repeated hundreds of times across a round and a practice session. Most golf injuries aren't caused by a single incident. They develop as accumulated overload at a structure that's absorbing more than its share.

Lower back pain in golfers, for example, is often driven by restricted thoracic mobility. When the thoracic spine can't rotate freely, the lumbar spine compensates — taking rotational load it wasn't designed for. Treating the back without addressing the thoracic restriction means the same load pattern continues.

Felicia's approach identifies where in the kinetic chain the overload originates. A combination of dry needling, manual therapy, and progressive loading addresses both the painful structure and the movement pattern that's been driving the load — so the injury doesn't return when you're back on the course.

What we treat

Common golf injuries

  • Golfer's elbow (inner elbow pain and forearm ache)
  • Lower back pain after rounds or practice
  • Shoulder pain in the backswing or follow-through
  • Wrist and forearm pain from impact or repetition
  • Neck stiffness affecting rotation
  • Hip tightness limiting your turn
  • Rib or side pain from rotational loading
  • Recurring injuries across multiple seasons

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What is golfer's elbow and how is it different from tennis elbow?

Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylalgia) involves the tendons on the inner side of the elbow — the forearm flexors and pronators used in the downswing. Tennis elbow affects the outer side. Both are tendon overload conditions that respond well to physiotherapy, including dry needling, eccentric loading, and load management. They can also occur together.

Why does my back hurt after golf?

Golf generates high rotational forces through the lumbar spine, particularly at impact. Lower back pain in golfers is often driven by restricted thoracic rotation forcing the lumbar spine to compensate, combined with hip mobility limitations. Physiotherapy identifies the restriction driving the compensatory load and addresses it directly — manual therapy, dry needling, and mobility work to redistribute the movement demand away from the painful segment.

Should I stop playing golf while my injury is being treated?

Not necessarily. The goal is load modification, not complete rest. Depending on the injury and its severity, Felicia will advise on whether to continue playing, reduce volume, modify your practice (e.g. short game only), or take a brief break. Most golfers can remain active through rehabilitation with sensible load management.

Can dry needling help golf injuries?

Yes — dry needling is particularly effective for the muscle and tendon conditions common in golfers. Trigger points in the forearm flexors (golfer's elbow), rotator cuff muscles, and lumbar paraspinals are directly treated with dry needling, reducing pain and restoring normal muscle function as part of a broader rehabilitation programme.
